disc cleanup

whenever i try to do a disc cleanup my windows xp system
seems to freeze up and the cleanup stops after only just
starting. does anyone know the answer to this?

If your system freezes at the "compressing old files" stage go here and
scroll down to Line 48 then look to the right side where you will find a fix
