disc checking

windows detected a problem with a file, recommended disc
check. when system stage 3 of 3 was completed and disc
check was successfully completed, message stays on screen
and system does nothing. cannot access anything but if i
shut down and restart and then strike any key to cancel
disc check, system comes up. how can i remove disc check
message from coming up each time i start up system? or
why does completion message just stay there?
