I have an 'interesting problem' here and I was wondering if anyone 'out
there' could shed some light on it.
I have a client with a new (three weeks old) installation of Windows Server
2003 SBE. The client had Exchange Server 2003 running and everything was
cool. Then, their system got hit with a virus. We do not know exactly WHEN it
got hit and the tape backup system was still being 'debugged' from some
installation problems. To make matters worse, it appears to be a brand-new
virus that 'blew through' the anti-virus installed on the server.
Anyway, the problem is this...the Exchange server installation had to be
'blown away' to clear up the damage from the virus. It is now re-installed
and working fine. Trouble is...there is no data in the Exchange Server and we
cannot restore it from tape. We DO have a copy of the data files from about a
week before the virus hit, but I cannot use the "Recovery Storage Groups"
technique because the mailboxes had to be blown away and now their SID's will
not match the mailboxes in the old data files.
The workstations had Exchange caching turned on, but I do not know how or
even IF it is possible to restore the cached data to the new Exchange Server.
I have recreated the users' mailboxes under the same names etc. but, of
course, the SID's are going to be different.
It is maddening to have the 'missing' data in two different forms and yet
not have it where we need it...ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated.
