Disappearing underline

I recieved an e-mailed Word document form with areas to type above
underlines. When I type the text appears, but the underline disappears.
What's up?

The reason is because that is the way that form was made. I imagine that
they have put in there cells or tables, if you want to have that line, adjust
the borders for those cells and choose the border with the line width that
you want and click the bottom part of that cell in the Preview that they have
shown for you in the Borders and Shading dialog box.
