Disappearing Quick Launch Shortcut Icons

Every so often, I have no clue what triggers it, one of my four quick launch shortcuts disappears. The single icon of the four that disappears is selected at random. I have Show Desktop, Internet Explorer, Outlook 2003, and Notepad as my shortcuts. One time it will be the Notepad icon that disappears, another Internet Explorer, etc. I don't understand what is causing this to occur, but what's even stranger is that while they're not being displayed on my Quick Launch bar, they're still located in the Quick Launch folder. Then out of the blue, they reappear. I have searched everywhere for an answer to this problem and had no luck, does anyone know? Note: I am using Windows XP Professional on a brand new laptop.

If nothing changes, try resetting the Taskbar to Default.
