Disappearing Icons

I realise that this may be in the wrong group for this question, if so can
someone please direct me to the correct group.

My friend is using Windows 98SE, and also Internet Explorer 6. When she
boots the computer all is well, but when connected to the Internet all the
Icons in the Systray with the exception of the Volume Control and the
Messenger Icon disappear.

She did have MyWebSearch take over her browser but I have uninstalled that
as well as cleaning all reference to it out of the Registry. I have also ran
the repair tool in Internet Explorer, as well as doing a scanreg /fix. While
this seems to overcome the problem, when the computer is turned off
overnight and restarted the problem returns.

Any help would be appreciated.
