Disappearing Drives

While installing Nero on Vista Home Edition, the system showed a
registry error that I did not see. The computer then proceeded to
reboot. When it did, my CD-ROM, and my DVD Burner are no longer
recognized by Vista.

I re-installed both drivers but the system remains ignorant that these
two drives were available. I tried uninstalling Nero in case that was
the problem, but somehow it fails to uninstall.

Anyone have any ideas what went wrong and how can I go about fixing
it?

Thanks in advance

I think you should have a look in the Vista Event Viewer and find any
relevant events associated with the install. You could post them back here
and someone might be able to help...

I had the same problem after installing Intervideo DiskMaster , vista no
longer reconized my opti drives.

The ONLY way to get them back is to do a system restore (roll back) to
earlier before you installed nero , I went back to the day before and my
drives came back , BUT make sure you have completely removed nero first.

good luck

PS: BTW Intervideo swears that Diskmaster works with Vista....yeah right....

Just to add my 2 cents - When I just inserted a CD to rip, I was told I don't
have a CD drive. A check in " computer" verified this. Its gone.
I did nothing since it last worked, 2 hours ago. The only thing that
occurred in between was 6 Windows updates, including the one cited in the
above post "Peculiar Windows Updates". Could this be the link? Wayne.

You may have the "upper & and lower filters" problem as experienced in
XP, read this
M$ K/B Article ID: 314060.

Do back up the keys before deleting the values.

Caveate if this regedit doesn't apply to Vista someone please advice .
