Disabling XP Home Edition Startup Items

Can anyone tell me how to disable certain startup items. When i run
"msconfig" and de-select, I get an error message at startup.

I'm not Dr Watson Sherlock and the crystal balls a bit fuzzy this AM
, could you post some pertinent details

What are you attempting to disable, what error msgs are you recieving

All would help

run>regedit>HKLM>software>microsoft>windows>currentversion>run>delete
whatever
