I have heard that the on board video that comes with my dell 240
computer uses alot of RAM and that it is better to diable it an
install a video card on the mother board which has its own RAM. This i
supposed to make the computer faster. First of all is this true? And i
it is true how do you diable the on board video

Yes, it is true. An oboard video adapter reserves a part of the installed
RAM for it's functions. Add in video cards are better in this respect and
you'll find that they are easier to update the video card drivers which
change often to keep up with the current technology.

How you disable the onboard video adapter depends can vary from system to
system. Ask Dell about this or consult the system manual.

In most cases, the installation of a dedicated video card will automatically
disable the on-board system but you can disable it through through both front
end and back end.

Do you know that how much RAM your Onboard VGA is sharing? Even latest PC
which comes up with a Onboard VGA, shares max. 64MB of RAM. So instead of
buying a new VGA card, I will suggest you to buy RAM say 256MB RAM. Which
will more cheap and will give a boost performance to your PC and half the
prize of new VGA Card.

Further, you can reduce the size of shared memory of your Onboard card
through BIOS setup. Set it to minimum 8MB (never set it to 1MB).

Mostly, gamers like to add a new AGP card instead of using Onboard for
better Gaming Performance.

In end, decision in yours. Hope this information helps you, let us know!

Unless you are into gaming, you may as well install more RAM.. it will
benefit all that you do with your computer..
