Disabling DEP (Data Execution Prevention)

Does DEP requires 64-bit CPU (eg. AMD64/Itanium)? Mine is Pentium 4 (no
HT; first model).
I have installed SP2, but I don't have the DEP tab in the System property
dialog.
However, my BOOT.INI file does have the /NoExecute=OptIn parameter.
And how do I check whether DEP is currently enabled?

It doesn't matter what CPU you have for the 'software' DEP to work. I'm
running an Athlon XP and mine's enabled.
To check to see whether DEP is working or not -
right click 'My Computer' go to 'Advanced' tab. Under Performance hit
'settings' and you should see the 'Data Execution Prevention' tab.
The default setting is the first selection - 'Turn on DEP for essential
Windows programs and services'
