How can I disable access to cd and floppy for some users on xp home,
preferably without using external applications ?

You can try here. Click the My Computer icon on desktop and
rightclick your CD-Rom drive. Then Click Sharing and Security for
the settings. Same for your "A" (floppy) drive.

If you have Windows XP Pro, use the GPO Editor (Start > Run > gpedit.msc)

User Cnfiguration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows
Explorer > Locate "Prevent access to drives from My Computer" and male the
required changes.

I do not have xp pro. I have xp home. Actually what I need is to prevent
user from executing applications from floppy, CD, and USB drives and at
the same time I need them to be able to save their files (documents) to
the drives.

The MS Shared Computer Toolkit /may/ be what you are looking for:

Also I found a program that will do what you are looking for but it is not
free.

How to prevent users from running programs from the removable disks:

This is close to what I need. Thanks. Any ideas how to prevent user from
taking out the mainboard battery which resets bios password and allows
them to start system from removable media ?

Some computer cases have a place for a lock so you cannot open the case
without removing the lock first.

I think I need something more advanced. Not only blocking execution all
exes from removable media but allowing to run only listed exes (not just
listed catalogues) on standard HD. Folderguard seems to allow running
all within a chosen catalogue, or maybe I am wrong ?
