Disabled screensavers

Can anyone explain why screensavers from a previous
installation of Win98 or MS Plus are subsequently disabled
after an OS upgrade to WinXP? Is there any way of getting
them to work again? Thanks for any help.

Yes, after renaming the files back to their *.scr
extensions from their disabled names, e.g.
mystery.scr.disabled, I can then right click and choose
install. Nothing happens when I do this however. The
screensaver dialog box under Display properties opens and
shows the name of the screensaver as being Wildlife 32.
If I click on preview, it just goes to a dark screen with
no image, which can be restored to the original status by
moving the mouse, as if a screensaver were being
previewed. Another peculiar thing is that every one of
these disabled screensavers (Mystery, Nature, Baseball,
Jungle, Space, Sports, etc.) list as their original file
name under properties as wl32.scr instead of their
previous names. As I mentioned, these are all Microsoft
screensavers from Win98 and MS Plus that were apparently
automatically disabled at the time of conversion to
WinXP. Their corresponding wallpapers, icons, etc. in each
of the themes are still available, but not their
screensavers. Is this by design? Are they somehow
incompatible with WinXP? I have four computers that I
upgraded to WinXP from either Win98 SE or Win Me, and
these screensavers are disabled on all of them. I was
unable to find any reference to this issue in the
Knowledge Base. Any ideas? Thanks for your previous
reply. Craig
