Disabled RPC now I can't load Windows XP Prefessional

I had the same problem as...

I am having a promblem with Windows shutting down on me.
It gives the message "Windows will restart in _seconds.
A Remote Procedure Call Service terminated unexpectedly"
and then it shuts down and restarts. This happens when I
try to download and install MSN Message...Please advise

I went ahead and disabled my RPC through "Computer Management" to see if this corrected the problem now I can't load Windows XP pressional.. All I get is my backround and a few icons on my desktop. what Should I do? I ran Bios when i restart the laptop but I can't seem to find the problem. Despearatly need help.

It looks like you have got the blaster worm. You can download a small free programm from the Symantec sites that searches for this worm and destroys it. Than read the Microsoft sites to download the patch that closes the access of the worm on your PC. This is known for a couple of month now

RPC is a required service. However the virus that you

have which is using the RPC service is not.

Use your WinXP CD and boot to the Recovery Console:
1. Type the following command: Enable RPCSS Service_Auto_Start
2. Press the Enter key
3. Type: exit
4. Press Return
The computer will now restart.
