Disabled Display Control Panel and yet...

Hi all ~

I have disabled the Display Control Panel on some XP Home machines (via
Registry settings) to prevent the users from messing with the display
settings.

Even though my users are not very computer literate, one of them has managed
to
set up a desktop background image - how is that even possible with very little
knowledge?

BTW, they still run on Admin accounts (have not yet configured everything to
be able to enforce Limited Accounts).

Thanks for any pointers!

You don't need Display Settings or a degree in computers to set the wallpaper. Just right click an image in IE and select Set as
Wallpaper, press Ctrl+Shift+C in IRFanView to set the current image as centered wallpaper, run Marty List's SetWallPaper.exe,
Sysinternal's BGInfo, James Garton's Wallpaper Master, Nihuo's Crystal Wallpaper, Ivory's Panorama. There are as many was to assign
the desktop background as there are stars in the sky.

I'm not sure if there is a way to disable altering the wallpaper compeltely-although the concept does sound vaguely familiar-but
that's what you'll want to search on ("disable/prevent change/alter desktop wallpaper/background").
