disabled admin account

I was in the Computer Management Property sheet and
disabled the Administrator account. Later, I reduced the
user account from Administrator rights to a limited
user. Oops! Now I can not enable the Amin account or
increase my user privleges. I am unable to install
updates or run my win XP disk. I am using XP pro. If
anyone can help that would be huge. Thanks. Sawyer

Hi

The original Administrator is always enabled when booting
into Safe mode, so that should solve your problem...

.
Doug, I am not on a network. I have a direct connect
cable, so I could bring another computer w/ xp. What do
I do then?

Torgeir, I tried booting in safe mode, but when I got to
the welcome screen, no accounts were visible. Any more
ideas?

What I was shooting for is, if you're on a network, on the second machine, you can right click on My Computer, select Manage. When Computer Management opens, right click where it says Computer Management (Local) and select Connect to another computer. Type in the machine name of the affected computer and once connected, go to System Tools, Local Users and Groups. You can manage the affected machines accounts from there.

Note: Generally, you must use a username/password combination that exists on the affected machine, to log into the machine that you're attempting this from. This may not work, if the account you're using (in this case Administrator) is disabled.

I don't know if this would work over a Direct Cable Connection or not.

I will give this a shot. I can't try it today. I
appreciate your help. I will post a response when I try
it. Sawyer

Hi

At this screen, press Ctrl-Alt-Del *twice*.

You should then be presented with the "Log On to Windows" dialog box
where you can enter Administrator in the "User name" field.
