Disable "messenger service"

We are considering disabling the "messenger service" on all computers at our
organization. Does anybody know if there are any applications which might be
dependent on this service?

Let's see.... The operating system actually uses the messenger
service and if you torn off the messenger service then the operating
system can't alert the user to informational messages, warnings and
errors.
