You can't disable log on in XP. You can setup automatic logon.

method 1:
Start> Run> control userpasswords2
Select the account you want to log on with automatically.
Uncheck the box that user name and password is required to log on.
The machine will now boot straight to the desktop and automatically log on
the account chosen in the previous steps.
NOTE: If you have XP Home, do not use control userpasswords2 to make other
changes to user accounts! Since this tool is not full featured in Home, changing
other settings here could cause the user accounts to corrupt.

Method 2:
Setup automatic logon with Tweak UI for XP. TweakUI is one of the Power
toys for XP. This version is *only* for XP with SP1:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you do not have SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Method 3: If you recently lost your automatic logon after installing the
..NET Framework from Windows update, disable the ASP.NET Machine
Account in Computer Management> Local Users and groups> Users.

Hi Fran,

Start/run "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes).

Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click apply/ok and follow
the prompts to set up a default logon.
