For some reason, installation of either XP or 2k fails unless I disable the
internal cache in the bios. I get a blue screen that says installation
cannot proceed.
This is a fresh installation. I let XP repartition and then format the hard
drive. It's a Duron 1300MHz CPU in a Tyan motherboard. All voltage
settings and the like are done in the BIOS, and I've allowed it to
autodetect. Installation is normal if I disable the L1 cache, but it's
obviously incredibly slow. Enabling the cache after installation then
causes it to hang during boot.
Any ideas what's going on? Is the verdict as simple as "broken CPU" or
"broken motherboard", or is this a windows issue?
