disable emoticons

Any one know how to disable the irritating emoticons (who thought of the jug
ofale when you enter (b)?) in Word 2003 and also in Hotmail?

If you go to Tools, Autocorrect and the Autocorrect tab does the (b)?) entry
appear there? That's where is set to autocorrect to a smiley face picture
..... alas on my system no jug of ale seems to appear for me (neither in word
or hotmail)... I wonder if it's some third party spyware you've accidentally
downloaded?

I've found spybot is a good piece of free software to get rid of spyware in
the past - so maybe worth a shot if you don't get any better replies...

I've been into autocorrect and this is not the souce of the icons. Thanks
