I have a pupils at school using new
xp machines, they log on to a domain through an nt4 server
where thier domain user accounts are registered.
When they log on, the XP machines creates
a new account for them locally. Can this behaviour
be disabled before I end up with hundreds of
user profiles on each machine?

If they are logging in on a domain, it doesn't actually
create a local account, it just keeps track of their
local preferences. If you go into the Control Panel and
look at the local users and passwords, their account
should not show up. There is no way to disable this as
far as I know.

If you go into control panel/user accounts and click on "change the
way users log on or off" you can uncheck the "use welcome screen"
check box and windows should boot right up to the desktop.

That is re assuring to know Alex, I assumed that because xp
had logged their local preferences that it had created local accounts.
i will monitor this when I get back in to work.

Many Thanks

I'm not sure this is relevant in this case, when logging onto a domain
the user mustt enter a user name and password.

Thank you anyway for taking the time to reply.
