disable auto login

How do I prevent Messenger for "remembering" my user name
and password. I do not want it to automatically log me in.

Greetings Daya,

To stop it from automatically logging in, click the Start Button, then click the Control
Panel. Then, click User Accounts in the Control Panel. Select your account name, and then on
the left side of the screen, under Related Tasks, click 'Manage my Network Passwords'. In
the window that opens, click the Passport.Net\* (Passport) entry and click 'Remove'.

THank you for posting this info. I couldn't seen to find
this simple fix in the Windows Messenger KB. If you
don't mind, would you (or anyone) explain
what "Passport.Net\*" is/does?

Hi JR,

The Passport.Net\* is simply the name of the "saved" Passport in your Windows XP account.
This meaning, any Messenger client will automatically log you on, as will any .NET
Passport-enabled website when this is setup (and won't be able to automatically log on when
it's been removed).

I hope this thread is not completely forgotten
I had the same problem with .Net Passport and managed to sucessfully
erase the login name in the Messenger, by RUN control userpasswords2...
advanced... etc. But
I have to do it _EVERY TIME_ after I accessed the Messenger service
from XP. It's not easy for beginners, not even for power users. I
really need that any login name to use Messenger doesn't stay so hardly
recorded in the registry or whatsoever in the machine I'm sitting in,
Someone could simply sat down in front of a XP workstation without the
rights of running anything but messenger or else.
I don't care if I would need to merge some registry every hour or every
booting, but I need this feature to be _automatic_ as it was in the
original question.
