HELP!

I am experiencing increased lag on my computer whether on-
line or in safe mode when playing Medal of Honor Allied
Assault. The game hangs up, freezes, lags (whatever one
calls it) for several seconds with herky-jerky motion and
sound until it restores itself (several seconds). When
it passes, I can play for no more than a few minutes and
then it occurs all over again. It seems to be getting
worse--bouts occurring with less time apart.

I ran DirectX diagnostic and got the following msg: "the
file mfc42.dll is incorrectly installed in Windows folder
and should be deleted." I found the file in the
following folders and don't know which one to delete, if
any:

MFC42.DLL C:\WINDOWS
mfc42.dll C:\WINDOWS\System 32
mfc42.dll C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Micr...
MFC42.DLL appl.zip/sblive/english/player2/N...
[email protected] windows/I386/ASMS/6000/MSFT...

I don't even know if this is the problem, but appears to
be something that needs fixed nonetheless.

Any help is appreciated!

first thing I would try is disabling anti virus. It could
be that simple. It sounds like something is hogging your
resources. crtl/alt/del before going in and shut down all
non essential functions? ALso try changing to lower
resolution. Have you tried the new Wolfenstien game on
line yet? It kicks ass! (It is free from PC gamer Mag, or
you can download it on the net....

Appreciate the advice. I have pretty much shut down the
firewalls and turned off the anti-virus. Have also gone
to lower resolution and the lowest of most settings
permissible for this particular game. Kind of funny it
lags when a) on-line; and B) when simply playing the game
on the computer. Gotta be some sort of glitch. I'll be
blued and tatooed if I can figure it out.

What about the windows file part of the question--any
advice there?

That's a tricky one because MFC42.dll is the Microsoft Foundation Class
library and a lot of applications use it. There's no telling what will
break when you change a dynamic link library since different versions of a
dll may have different function calls, parameters, etc.

Here's what I got from DirectX Diag for DX 9.0b Retail SDK installs:

Windows XP mfc42.dll: 6.00.8665.0000
Windows 2000 mfc42.dll: 6.00.8665.0000
Windows ME mfc42.dll: 6.00.8665.0000
Windows 98 mfc42.dll: 6.00.8447.0000
