Directories in XP....

I am having trouble working out the directory system in XP. If I create a
file in my documents where does it actually sit?

I have just installed a wirless router and there seem to be a heap of
"shared folders"; ones relating to the desktop, laptop, etc. Can anyone
help please?

Although My Docs appears to just be another folder on the desktop, it isn't.
It actually resides in Documents and Settings/<your user name>
