Update your Direct CD software.

In Add/Remove programs, Uninstall DIrectCD - or in any Adaptec or Roxio
Easy CD Creator menu in All Programs that has an uninstall . Uninstall
Easy CD Creator too. Then To tidy up, get a registry patch file,
cdgone.reg, from www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click
on it and merge it into the registry

You will then need to reinstall any burning software in an XP compatible
version

Install Roxio Easy CD Creator - Later than Version 5.

Roxio EZCD version 5.3.5 is XP compatible as are later
versions. There are no updates available for version 4 or
any Adaptec versions. www.roxio.com

I think there are. But they do not make Adaptec ECDC XP compatible - I'll
trust you on the version. (I install Roxio CD Creator then immediately
install the latest update.)
