I keep getting a message when I restart my windows XP
home edition. It says that the driver for directCD was
not installed because it causes windows to be unstable.
When I click on the link for the patch I get purchasing
info for easy cd creator on the roxio site. Is there
actually a patch to download or is this just a scam?
Someone - PLEASE HELP

There is an update for version 5 Go to www.roxio.com

In the center of the page, just below the words SUPPORT
you'll see it say

New Easy CD Creator 5 Update Available

We have been running this machine for over 8 months and
this problem has never come up
DirectCD came loaded on the machine. So I don't even know
what version it is because when I do a find on directcd
it doesn't find any thing

In almost ALL programs, click on HELP, then about and you
get version information.

Open Easy CD Creator and goto: help, about. It will tell the version there.
Then goto the roxio website and download and install the updates for your
version.

See if the below fix works. Did you upgrade without uninstalling ECDC and
DirectCD version 4?
Please post back with your results.

1. Click Start button and select
Setting
then
Control Panel
menu options.

2. Select the
Add/Remove
programs icon.

3. Select and remove all Easy CD Creator programs and remove all shared
files when prompted.

Next Clean Easy CD Creator completely from your system:

1. Go to
Start
then
Search
, look in C:\ (or the drive where your operating system is located) and
search for:
Cdr4vsd.sys
Cdr4dll.dll
Cdral.dll
Cdrtc.dll
2. Rename all those files you can find, changing their extensions to .ROX
(Right click on the file name and choose
rename
)
3. Go to
Start
and then to
My Computer
and select it.
4. Go into your C:\ drive (C:\ is default install drive, compensate
accordingly if you installed in another location)
5. Go into the
Program Files
Folder
6. Look for a
Adaptec
folder and if found delete it
7. Look for a
Direct CD
folder and if found delete it
8. Go into the
Common Files
Folder
9. Look for an
Adaptec
and/or
Adaptec Shared
folder and if found delete them.
10. Go into the
InstallShield
Folder (C:\Program Files\Common File\InstallShield and rename the
Engine
and
IScript
folders to
Engine.ROX
and
Iscript.ROX

Version 4 of Easy CD Creator is not officially able to work on XP, and
Roxio provide no upgrade path other than purchasing a new full price
copy.

In practice you can probably get Easy CD Creator 4 itself working if you
do this:

Uninstall it and all other components, especially Direct CD and Take
Two. Not a bad idea then to use regedit.exe and highlight and delete
the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adaptec
item.

Get the upgrade from www.roxio.com to take your version of Easy CD
Creator 4 to 4.05

To tidy up, get a registry patch file, cdgone.reg, from
www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click on it and merge
it into the registry

Do that before installing any new burning software - even if you decide
to buy elsewhere or just use the simple minded burning that comes with
XP (and which is Easy CD creator style - not a Direct CD write
immediately to disk)

Then reboot and install the copy of Easy CD Creator (only) that you
have,. omitting Direct CD or Take Two.

At the end, after exit from the setup but before rebooting, run the
upgrade to 4.05 and reboot.

that will usually work - if it does not, cut your losses on it.

I am sure this was a copy and paste mistake, not an intentional posting of
bianaries. The attachments are small images used on the original HTML
formatted web page.
