Direct3D problems

OK... This problem is starting to get on my nerves <_<

Every time I try to run a game that uses Direct3D -> I get
a blank screen and then it minimizes the program and I
can't restore it. When I tested D3D in DXDiag -> You
cancelled the test by pressing a key.

Someone suggested me to test if Direct3D works on a window
-> and it works, but won't in Fullscreen

I'm running on Win XP Pro SP1, DirectX 9.0c, latest Display
Drivers from NVidia (WHQL certified)

Motherboard: EpoX 8RDAEI (nForce2)
Display Card: Asus V9520/TD (GeForce Fx 5200)

yeh, exact same here, all I get is a blank screen when playing games. (I made
a topic about it here, a few days ago). When i do the dxdiag tests, it fails
ALL of the Direct3D test, and also the last Direct Draw test...

.

Yep... I think I read it, but I think it isn't the same
problem. I get a blank screen for few seconds and then it
minimizes the game.

And I don't have any problems with DirectDraw... and as I
mentioned, D3D works on a window.

And I forgot to mention that sometimes I magae to get it
working by re-installing drivers or just restarting my
computer... but when I have to restart again -> doesn't
work any more

Hi Shark,

Here's what I suggest you try to resolve the DirectX error message:
"You Cancelled the test by pressing a key".

Here are the top 2 fixes for that error recently:
- Temporarily Shut off any 3rd party utilities including Antivirus and Firewall
- Look for any keyboard software running in Task Manager and End it.

Still having problems? :-s Read on...

1. You should setup a system restore point before starting:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/gethelp/systemrestore.asp

2. Go to the WindowsUpdate site to install everything under Critical
and Recommended: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

3. Download and (re)install the latest version of DirectX *
* Doesn't apply to you since you've updated to 9.0c

4. Disable Windows Auto-Update while testing DirectX. In Control
Panel / System / Automatic Updates tab, uncheck the top box / OK.

5. Disable any other auto updating program that you might be running on your
computer. Webshots or active desktops could be interfering with these tests.

6. Similar to step 5; Temporarily disable Startup programs one at a time, starting
with Firewall, Antivirus, etc.: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php
You can lookup what a program does before you disable it here:
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_full.htm

Hope that solves it. Take your time, and follow the steps in their listed order. :)

Hmm... I updated Windows, but after re-installing DirectX
-> I started getting "Blue Screen Of Death" every time I
started Windows 0.o ... Had no other choice than use System
Restore (Safe Mode)... Already 3rd time I get the same
problem after updating 0.o

And now Windows Update doesn't work... 0.o (It seems I have
to try updating with Automatic Update)

Hi Shark,

It seems that you have some serious issues with your current installation
if you're not able to update Windows normally without blue screening.

How To Repair Windows:
Unplug from your Internet connection, and then repair Windows:
using this method: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Afterwards, boot up your system, turn on your XP Internet Firewall,
plug back into your Internet connection and install all Critical and
Recommended updates from: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
