Digital photos - renaming ?

I am pretty sure that some months ago a program that would re-name
digital graphics was mentioned here. I don't just want a file re-namer
I want one that can use the exif (?) photo data for the new name.
Perhaps incorporating the date the photo was taken.

Can anyone here remember/recommend such a program please ?
A "how to" would be an added bonus. :)

Regards, John.

That could be Siren rename
http://www.scarabee-software.net/

I use the rename expression jdb%Xdod@%Xddt.%le to rename DCS_0001 to
jdb20041226@164511

where
jdb = my initials
%xdod = the exif date in yyyymmdd form
@ i= @
%xddt = the exif time in HHmmss
.. - .
%le = extention in lowercase

IIRC several apps can do this (THE Rename?). . .

Here's one (can't help with the how-to - I haven't tried it):

Program: SetNameToTime (v 2.1)
Author: (Åke Storck)
W: LFW
Ware: v 2.1 (now $ware)
http://www.slunecnice.cz/product/SetNameToTime/

I use:

Program: Cam4you
Author: Hans-David Alkenius
Ware: Donationware
http://jpegclub.org/cam4you/

and name the images by date and time as I get them from the camera.

I use this. Although mine is very old, I see. I have v0.6.

Anyway, I have this in the context menu for JPGs so that after dl the
pix from my camera, I run them all through this app so that I get
pictures named with the date and time rather than weird numbers.

I then use Oscar's Renamer (a super, incredible renaming app), with a
macro I created just for my digicam pix and it reformats the name for
me. All that takes about 10 seconds. Then, still using Oscar's, I
create a quick macro to customize the names of the digicam pix.

So I'll start with a weird set of digicam picture names and end up
after renaming with something like this:

2003.05.18.Sn, 13h39m08s- Tulip Festival '03.jpg
2003.05.18.Sn, 13h13m32s- Tulip Festival '03, many people!.jpg
2003.05.18.Sn, 13h14m33s- Tulip Festival '03, many people!.jpg
2003.05.18.Sn, 13h15m23s- Tulip Festival '03, Flotilla boat.jpg
2003.05.18.Sn, 13h18m05s- Tulip Festival '03, Tulip Patrol.jpg
2003.05.18.Sn, 13h22m18s- Tulip Festival '03, Laura-Lee.jpg
2003.05.18.Sn, 13h29m21s- Tulip Festival '03.jpg
2003.05.18.Sn, 13h33m29s- Tulip Festival '03.jpg
2003.05.18.Sn, 13h35m34s- Tulip Festival '03.jpg
2003.05.18.Sn, 13h36m37s- Tulip Festival '03.jpg
2003.05.18.Sn, 13h37m02s- Tulip Festival '03.jpg
2003.05.18.Sn, 13h13m15s- Tulip Festival '03, arriving.jpg
2003.05.18.Sn, 13h41m03s- Tulip Festival '03, Shark Alert!.jpg
2003.05.18.Sn, 13h41m24s- Tulip Festival '03, Shark Alert!.jpg
.... (actual example)

I usu. keep the names simple like this, but in the case where there
are special pictures, I then manually add bits of descriptive text as
in half of the pictures above.

Hey, thanks for this post <g>! I see there's another newer version
than the one I have re Oscar's Renamer. Anyway, the website for
Oscar's is:
http://www.mediachance.com/free/renamer.htm

Hmm, I just dl the file and although everything points to a new v1.1,
the file dl is v1.0. Other than that, Oscar's is fantastic!

Good luck!
