Digital Image Suite 10-Photo Library can't delete photos

Not sure if this is the right place for this questions but I have tried many
things to find a solution without much luck, please help.

I have a lot of pictures that I transferred from my hard drive over to my
Maxtor external drive, when I imported the pictures to Digital Image Suite
10's library, I noticed I had imported many duplicate pictures from the back
up folders and my picture folders residing on my external drive. When I tried
to delete the duplicates, my deleted photos in Digital Image Suite Library,
would go away for a while but then reappear.

I believe the problem occurs because the pictures reside on the external
drive and they can't be deleted in the library. I've tried researching
microsoft for suggestions, I have tried reinstall the software, I even
deleted the back up folder with no success. It appears the only thing to do
is to copy them back to my hard drive and then delete them but I don't have
enough space for all my pictures on the internal hard drive any more.

Does anybody have any suggestions/solutions on how I can go about deleting
the duplicates from my library?

The correct newsgroup for MS Digital

I think you are correct that the external
drive is the problem. Even though you
remove the folders/images from the Library...
apparently they still reside on the external
drive and are being re-cataloged.

Do you wish to permanently delete the
images from your external drive or just
remove the thumbs from your Library?

Thanks for the response!

I am just looking to delete the thumbs in the library and start fresh to
reorganize the library instead of keeping the many duplicates I have
erroneously imported.

I'll also take a look at the recommended website.

Maybe a simple first step would be to delete
or rename the Library database and re-catalog
your current image collection.

Be aware that the database contains metadata
that could not be written back to the image files
and the thumbs.

Your version 10 database is found at:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\
Application Data\Microsoft\POD\Pictures.pd2

Deleting or renaming the Pictures.pd2 file
to Pictures.OLD will cause the Library to
create a new one...which will revert the Library
to the way it was the first time you opened
the program.

If you cannot find the .pd2 file...open a folder
and go to...Tools / Folder Options / View tab...
Tick...Show hidden files and folders / Apply /
OK.
