I have a sony dcr trv355e plugged into an ATI AIW 8500DV,
but I get no response from any video capturing device.
The device is not visible in the device manager the
camcorder is on and in vcr mode and DV out enabled, I
have two IEEE 1394 ports and have tried both, has any one
got any ideas what could be wrong. Sony, ATI, and HP (it
is a compaq computer) all pass the blame to easch other
and I am left wondering where the actual problem lies.
TIA

I have exactly the same problem with a New Sony Handycam
DVD 100. Movie maker cannot recognise the capture device.
If you come up with an answer please post.

JQuart - Sony have advised me to have the camcorder and
FireWire cable checked but cannot as ther is no Sony
service representative in my area, if your camcorder is
still under warranty you might want to take it in.

I also am having the same problem with my Sony Digital 8 video camera. I had it loaded on an old computer and it worked then. Now a year later I try to use it on the old computer and it says that is has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. On my new computer, it just won't allow me to select the buttons on the capture screen. I have been looking all night for an updated driver for Windows XP that I may have missed. No luck. Anyone have any other ideas?

I have the same issue with my Sony DCR-TRV130. It worked
previously. I have installed Windows updates since the
last time it worked and various other software. I've
searched for drivers as well with no success. HP has
pointed me to tech bulletins that don't help. They
advised to do a system restore but it's been far too long
for me to go back. The 1394 host controller shos up
without any errors in my device manager. I've tried a
brand new firewire with same results, "cannot initialize
dv capture device". The device doesn't show in Exporer.
I also tried it with 2 different software packages and
they both receive the same aforementioned error. The
packages are Pinnacle Studio SE and Muvee. Did any one
make any headway on this issue?
