different symbols when typing in word

Hi
When I try typing in Word different symbols are coming up. ie when I hit the
' (apostrophe) an e with an accent comes up. I have checked the language bar??

It's not the "language" per se but the keyboard that's selected: Control
Panel | Regional and Language Options | Languages | Details in Windows XP;
the path will be similar in other OSes.

Thanks I think that did it. I was totally confused because when I logged in
as myself (administrator) it worked as normal but when my kids logged in it
didn't. Thanks
