Hello, I have been reading posts all over the Internet about
reinstalling XP. The posts from psongman are quite interesting as he
seems to be having the sortof the same dilemma as I have been
experiencing. Can you or can you not install Windows XP from burning
the i386 folder and accessing it after you have put in a boot disk for
Win98, bootdisk.com etc.?

Would downloading the 6 setup floppies make the reinstall easier? I
mean in the sense that you don't keep trying to make cd's that your
blank hard drive won't read but a method that will get you into the
setup. I have tried a few of the scenarios mentioned on the Web but
none have actually started the setup. Many web pages claim that a
method they describe will get the job done but I haven't seen the
fruits of this labor yet. Finally, I know having the original CD would
be nice, but mine didn't come with one, and I really wanted to start
off fresh, so I wiped the hard drive and am starting from scratch. So,
please help me with this reinstallation project, sampledp

Ok, then all those posts that it can be done should be immediately
wiped off of this group and websites that say it can, my 4 cents,

You moron... you need something to start with, either a CD or a
directory on your hard drive that contains restore files.

You wiped your drive.

Nice move.

Now go wipe your ass, because you're shit outta luck.

HI, I have a copy of those files, U Glumpy. Why does everyone have to
jiump onto some antagonistic bandwagon. I just helped a neighbor this
afternooon that was in a heap of trouble and had to have something done
asap. I didn't gripe or groan but helped her out because she needed my
assistance. Why can't readers of these newsgroups do the same. I just
want to get this OS onto the computer. Somebody here must have been
through or encountered this scenario. The files from the computer
should be able to run a reinstall somehow. I even made an iso of them,
and every time I look in the directory of my e drive (dir/p), I see
them, but can't get into the i386 to run setup. Anyway, help if you
can, but no more, need the cd's or websites that don't work, by the
way, I did the petri one, Carey, no workee, so take those sites down
unless you can prove to me that they do. Awaiting data, ps

Someone griped about helping you?

The i386 folder does not contain the installation files
necessary to install Windows XP. You'll need to
purchase a genuine copy of Windows XP in order
to install from the Windows XP installation CD.
