I jut set up my dell laptop with xp and I restarted but when it came to the
log in it was not the xp format of my name with a graphic beside it. It was a
window just like my old ME log in that had my name and below it the space for
my password. Also, when I click the shutdown option in the start menu it is
the same window format but the log off window is in the XP format. How do I
change them back (log in and shutdown) to look like it should?

It's not a matter of looking like it should. It's a matter of what
style you prefer. You want to use the welcome screen. Login to an
account that has administrator privileges. Go to Start | Control Panel
| User Accounts. Click on "Change the way users log on or off". Put a
tic mark in "Use the Welcome screen", Apply Optons. Exit the dialog
boxes and reboot.

Ok, I see where that is but it says that I need to uninstall client services
for netware. I did that but then I cant connect to my schools network
(Reznet). Is there anyway I can still be on my network (Just need the
internet connection, nothing else on there) and have the traditional welcom
screen?

No, as far as I know.
