its more like giving your isp gateway addresses ..
to know what your ip address is try this ..
start > Run > type in CMD then press enter .

a console prompt will launch , now using the tracert command u can get your
routers ip address which will be the 2nd one

tracert google.com

Hi there,

How can it be that two different IP Address tracers, give my PC's IP
address differently?

1. www.myipaddress.com gives my IP as 198.54.202.226

2. www.whatismyip.com gives my IP as 165.146.55.192, 196.25.253.13

I connect to the net through a wireless ADSL router.

Hi again,
this makes perfectly sence.
I have done the tracert and discovered something interisting:
My two PC's connected to the net through my Wireless Network, has the
same IP addresses. Is this correct?

Your router as the DHCP server is using the IP that your ISP gave you and
gives both your computers IP addresses corresponding to its own network.
This is why you get the same IP for the trace on both computers.

Hi Deon & Moo,
Yes, it is correct. Same with my wired Router with 4 PC's. BUT I still have different IP address as against tracert command. Both
www.myipaddress.com and www.whatismyip.com gave me the same IP address. Can I conclude tracert is wrong?

tracert cant be Wrong .. this is the actual ip you are using to communicate
to the outside world ..

like

you -------------> Router--------> NeT
192.168- 193.188.x.y w.x.y.z

note that IP addys is Variable like your ip will look diff , but thats the
actual one .
i will post my site here try to check your ips , it will give u a box up
there and tell your ip .

http://www.ultimate-xtreme.us/getip.asp

after getting the ip plz compare it with the tracert command .

Your router as the DHCP server is using the IP that your ISP gave you
and gives both your computers IP addresses corresponding to its own
network. This is why you get the same IP for the trace on both
computers.

Hi again,
what still amaizes me is that the two websites mentioned above, still
give my computer's IP Addresses different to the other.
www.whatismyip.com has the first option to be the correct one.

How can that be? I am just curious.

Hi again,
this makes perfectly sence.

Yes, this is perfectly normal. The WAN side of your router sends
things out from your computers to the modem (either DSL or Cable).
The Modem has only one IP address, so regardless which computer sends
the traffic, once it leaves the router and goes out to the modem it
uses the only address there is.

Now, on the LAN side of your router (where the router recieves the
signal FROM the modem and sends it to the computers) it's different.
The router assigns each computer a local IP address (usually in the
192.168.x.x range) and keeps track of which computer has which
internal address. It sends incoming packets to the correct computer.
How does it do this? It uses a technology called Network Address
Translation, or NAT.

I'm not getting into NAT and it's implementation. You want to know
more about that, go out and do your own research.

It's wrong! Tracert 1st reading is 172.31.255.252 and 2nd reading is 192.168.27.53

And the reading from your site is 69.3.26.126 which are the same with myipaddress.com and whatismyip.com. Now, do you mean yours
is wrong?
