Different header on every page, same footer with sequential number

In Word 2003, I'd like to have a different header on every page of my
document, but have the same footer with sequential chapter and page numbers.
How can I accomplish this? Thanks.

You may be able to use the StyleRef field; otherwise, you'll need section
breaks.

Hi bisquit9,

Word provides you with the capacity to specify a different first page and different even & odd pages per Section in a document. This
allows you to use up to 3 headers & footers per Section. You access this via File|Page Setup|Layout. The headers can vary whilst
retaining the same footers, if you like. Even within that, there's scope for using fields to vary the content of the page headers
(eg using a STYLEREF field to repeat Chapter headings from the body of the document).

You'll need to provide more detail before any of the possible approaches can be taken much further, though.

I'm typing a reference document that is codified. I want to put the code
number in the header for the first code that appears on each page. The page
numbers in the footer would need to be sequential. I am using different
documents for each chapter, so the page numbers in the footer reflect the
chapter number and page number, i.e. 2-1, 2-2, 2-3, etc. for chapter 2.
Would I use StyleRef to do this?

What you look up in Help (hah!) or a guidebook is "dictionary
headers," and yeah, they use STYLEREF fields. They're not too
tricky ...
