different colors in a text string in a list/listview control

In the Contact List on the Pocket PC, when you use the 'find a name'
feature, the names that are displayed have the appropriate characters (i.e.
those you are searching on) as 'white on blue', rather than the regular
'black on white'.

How do they do that? Everything I've seen on the forum about colors etc.
suggests that one cannot do this in the .net environment, so is this doable
yet?

With a custom drawn control you can, The Contacts app uses an Owner-Drawn
listview so it can do a few things the regular windows control can't. Alex
Yakhnin's SmartList might be just what you are looking for as it implements
this kind of filtering - its in the SDF (www.opennetcf.org/sdf/)
