Differences exporting to Word from Access 2007

In Access 2003, when I used to run an export into Word, a temporary file was
opened on the screen which I could work with, and then print immediately.
However, in Access 2007, when I use the Word icon to export into Word, I'm
prompted immediately for a file name and location to save the file, which
introduces a new step into the export process.

Is there a way to change the way the export takes place so I can just get
Word to open, instead of having to specify a destination file name and
folder? Thanks to anyone who can help me!

It only an extra step, and it step that you have to do AFTER you editing
anyway...right?

Keep in mind that most people who are exporting to word want to save the
document.

It not clear why you would send the data to word, edit that data, and then
print it without any record of what you just done?

Also, there is an option to "open the destination file after the export is
done.

So, in most cases you not going to edit that data...so, it winds up being
less steps.

The old way means that you have to export to word, then in word go
file ->save as, and then close that word document, and then possibility
close word. That is HUGE AMOUNT of steps to just export a word document.

So this new process is a good deal less steps for most people. And you don't
even have to launch/use/edit/save as and even deal with word when you take
this approach. You just export the word document, and you are done....no
messing or even the need to run word at all.

I think your case is more of an exception here.

However, if this is for a report, you could certainly add a custom button to
the ribbon that makes this a one-click affair. and Would launch word.

It is not quite clear as the kind of editing is occurring here. Is this a
report being sent to word, or simply a table that being exported to word?

And, after the editing is done, does not the user have to select a file
name? (if yes, then the time + effort to select a file name at the start, or
the end is not really much different here).

Perhaps you can use word merge to a word template in place of this?

Anyway, one could add a custom ribbon option to send the report to a temp
file, and then launch word. This would give the same behaviors as before is
that is really what is needed.

Also, I just tried exporting a report to word from access 2003. It does
prompt me to overwrite the previous word document (so, it is only the 1ST
time that you don't get a prompt for the document). So in effect the old way
actually WAS creating the word document first, and THEN launching the word
document. So, the process is not really any different here and in fact not a
change in the number of steps.

If you can determine in code as to what the output document is going to be,
then you can make this less steps then a2003 or a2007....
