Yes, this is a common problem. Something in SP 2 'broke' that feature for
some configurations. There really isn't a sure-fire solution, so you're
probably going to have to live with it until MS offers a fix. If it helps,
you're not missing out on anything important.

Help and support Did you know

Help and Support - Did you know not working...

Delete the following file.
C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Config\News\newsver.xml
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm

Did you know? Updated: Monday, 30 January, 2006

As near as I can tell, the Updated date seems to be related to the Modified
date of
C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Config\News\NewsHeadlines_1033_Professional.xml
(or NewsHeadlines_1033_Personal.xml or NewsHeadlines_1033_Server.xml or
NewsHeadlines_1033_AdvancedServer or NewsHeadlines_1033_DataCenter)
and
C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Config\News\newsver.xml

Seems to be a common problem. At least yours is working, otherwise you'd
see this...

[[When you are connected to the Internet, this area will display links to
timely help and support information. If you want to connect to the Internet
now, start the New Connection Wizard and see how to establish a Web
connection through an Internet service provider. ]]

This can happen if
C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Config\News\NewsHeadlines_1033_Professional.xml
is missing. Or whatever version for XP that you have is missing.

Interesting.

Use HTTP1.1 through proxy connections is not selected and my Did you know
works fine.

And on mine it IS checked, and it works fine.

The only thing I've found that DOES seem to actually help it update is to
open IE first (to a blank page is fine), then open H&S - then it usually
does update if the last update was more than a day ago.

Regardless, there has never actually been anything of interest in those
headlines, just tips for newbies. But it is nice to see it update
correctly...

This problem is like Tooltips hidden behind the Taskbar, no real fix for
everyone.

I never view any of the Did you know stuff either, but it is nice to see the
correct date. ;-)
