Did I get the FP folder hierarchy wrong?

When I started working with FP many months ago, I simply created my web
pages, one after the other, under C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\My
Documents\My Websites.

Recently I read in a FP documentation that one has first to create the
website, or folder for a specific website, and then to fill the site with the
pages and other files that make up the web site's content.

So I created a specific folder for my site and saved each single page at the
new location. I have now two identical websites, one at C:\Documents and
Settings\My Name\My Documents\My Websites; the other at C:\Documents and
Settings\My Name\My Documents\My Websites\serenity.

Question: Can I now delete the first website that is not in the specific
website folder?
I am cautious as FP has created a file folder for almost each single page
when I created them the first time. At the new location, there are no file
folders, just the web pages and the images that I placed in a specific image
folder.

I don't know why FP created these file folders. When I open them, I find
files like filelist.xml or images with the extension wmz or emz.

How important are these files and again, can I delete them now as the -
hopefully - complete website is additionally saved in a specific website
folder?

Well you did - My Websites - if that has a globe on it - that's a "Frontpage
website" and theoretically any / all folders below that that has a globe on
it is a "Frontpage website" and when youu open it, it opens all your files /
folders in that FrontPage website and you choose where to publish it

So I created a specific folder for my site and saved each single page at the
new location. I have now two identical websites, one at C:\Documents and
Settings\My Name\My Documents\My Websites; the other at C:\Documents and
Settings\My Name\My Documents\My Websites\serenity.

So you have a Frontpage web at C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\My
Documents\My Websites and one at C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\My
Documents\My Websites\serenity
You could even say serenity is a subweb / subsite of My Websites, but of
course you don't consider that (or need to). And just in case - take a look
at http://www.loudexpressions.com/2007/09/publishing-option-is-grayed-out and
you will see the "Frontpage Website" with the globe on it and folders under
that

I don't think so. If you are referring to C:\Documents and Settings\My
Name\My Documents\My Websites and you delete the My Websites (folder) that
will delete everything under that including the serenity

I can't remember exactly - but did you copy anything from another office
program or use Frontpage draw, autoshapes?

Folders with names ending in _files contain graphics and other files
related to the page - example: pagename_files is matched with
pagename.htm. These folders are created when:
1) Page content is created with an Office program, such as Word,
Publisher, PowerPoint, or Excel
2) VML graphics (created with the Drawing toolbar, including Word Art,
ShapeArt, Text boxes) are in the page
3) The page has been saved from a web page in Internet Explorer

The folders are always hidden in a FrontPage web when viewed from
FrontPage.

FYTI, .wmz files are usually produced by PowerPoint.

Thanks a lot!Your response was very helpful to me.

"My websites" has a globe and the new folder "serenity" has a globe. The
other files at C:\Documents and Setting\My Name\My Documents\My websites are
just FP pages and images.
Eventually, I want to have other websites besides "serenity." So I think I
need to create a separate (globe) folder for each and one of these different
websites.

Now allow me to clarify my previous question, "Can I now delete the first
website" (that is not in the Serenity folder)?' What I meant is, Can I delete
all the single FP pages (a total of 33) that are not in the folder at
C:\Documents and Setting\My Name\My Documents\My websites\Serenity, but just
at C:\Documents and Setting\My Name\My Documents\My websites?

The next questions is ,why do I have for almost each single FP page at
C:\Documents and Setting\My Name\My Documents\My websites a folder like
home_files for my web page named "home?"I do not have this folder for example
for my home page at C:\Documents and Setting\My Name\My Documents\My
websites\serenity. There is one exception, however: FP created at the second
location a folder for my stress_coping page that contains graphics and a file
called filelist.xml.
What does this mean? What do I do with these folders?

Yes, you remember correctly; when I created the web pages for the first time
- at C:\Documents and Setting\My Name\My Documents\My websites - I tried to
use autoshapes (they moved all over the place in the preview with IE 7). and
I did a lot of copying and pasting from Office Word.

Yes, I created most of my pages the first time by copying and pasting from
Word
I never, however, used PowerPoint.

Sometimes I opened my pages from Windows Explorer. Could this have had an
impact?

I have only ever seen .wmz files created by PowerPoint - but that does
not mean the other Office products don't produce them under some
circumstances.

Opening pages from Windows Explorer would not affect the file names and
extensions, but it may affect the links in the pages, making them
absolute links pointing to your hard drive.

You can delete the original files and folders, but do not delete any
folders with names beginning _vti_ in the my webs folder - you can
delete the contents of _vti_cnf (if it exists), but not the contents of
any others
