I created an account for dialup. It works correctly. I want a shortcut to that dialup
account on my desktop. How do I get it there?

Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections...right click on connection...select create shortcut.
keep it on desktop, or drag it to quick launch

Instead of "Network and Internet", I have "Network and Sharing Center". That is where I go to
make the connection. However, even creating a shortcut from that Control Panel Icon, it still
takes 6 steps to start dialing...
Click the icon
Select Connect to Network
Select that dialup connection
Click Connect
Select Dialup Connection
Click Dial

The old way was I had an icon on my desktop, click it and then click Dial in the dialog box.

Open control panel , go to Network and Sharing Center, click on Manage network connections, right click on your connection in the window, select create shortcut, a window will appear saying you cant create it here, do you wanna place it on the desktop...click yes for god's sake. If you take that shortcut...which is now on the "desktop". you can double click it to start it, or if you drag it to the quick launch bar, one click will start it.

You can actually set up your system up to dial your ISP automatically
when ever a internet connection is needed (starting IE7,Windows Mail,
etc:) eliminating the need for a dial-ip icon on your desktop.

Control Panel|Internet Options|Connections(tab)| then select add.
you should be able to select your dial-up and add it to the list.

If I recall correctly there are also options to keep your connection
alive or hang up after you close any internet related program.

But if you really prefer to have it on your desktop the other posts
have instructed you how to do it.
