would anyone recognise this problem,
I use winXP and dial up internet access, but I think I have had
the same problem with a different ISP and before that a similar one with
win 98.
after dialing up following booting, internet access has been fine for a few
minutes then suddenly no websites can be accessed at all, even after
turning the modem off and on, or restarting IE/Opera, or setting XP's
firewall option on.
Only a physical reboot or reset, not XP's restart, was enough to be able to
get back online temporarily, but just now that has not worked either.
Therefore I am posting here while at least a news server is still
accessible.
ie.in IE,"The page cannot be displayed"
or in Opera "Connecting to remotehost..."
followed by "unable to connect ro remote server"
the same thing happens not always at the same time with news servers
in the meantime the connection status window continues to show constant
activity, eg. .5MB transmitted and 1.4MB received over 40 minutes.
Norton antivirus (which only loads for me in safe mode) did detect &repair
a bloodhound virus. I don't have a floppy drive so I have not tried a anti
virus boot floppy, Using Adaware does remove several unwanted object
families but does not solve the problem.
the similar problem in win98 was when connectivity was completely lost
after some time but the connection could then not be
closed making a reboot necessary.
regards/thanks
