Right click on the My Computer icon and select properties. Flip to the
hardware tab and click on Device manager. In the device manager, expand the
'Modems' tree and double click on your modem. Flip to the Modem tab and
under the speaker volume, drag the volume slider all the way left. This
should mute all the 'handshaking' noise which the modem makes while
connecting.
Control Panel/Phone and Modem Options/Modems Tab/Properties/Modem
Tab. Under Speaker volume, slide to High. Your specific modem may also
require
a string in the advanced tab. M0 usually turns it off.
Go to Start/Control Panel/Phone and Modem/Modems/Properties/Advanced/
ExtraModem/Modems/Properties/Advanced/Extra initialization commands and type
in:
M0 (note: that is a zero, not the letter O).
