Dial-up Connection is Missing- HELP!

M

Mark

This morning when I went to access my dial-up connection,
I found that I couldn't access it via the shortcut on my
desktop. When I took a look at the Network Connections
menu, I discovered the dial-up icon was missing.

I created a new connection and was able to get back onto
the Internet, but now the new connection won't let me
disconnect. I have to literally turn off the machine. I
also noticed there is no network icon being displayed in
the bottom right toolbar, despite the fact that the
option to show that icon is clicked.

This happened to me once before, but a System Restore
seemed to fix the problem. Any idea as to why this keeps
happening and how to fix it without having to do System
Restore?

Thanks!

In the meantime you can use "rasphone.exe" to disconnect.

Are you making network config changes when this happens?

For the missing icon:

First make sure that your Network Connections Service and Remote Access
Connection Manager services are running. If they are then compare the LAN
connections in the connections folder with the Network Adapter drivers in
device manager. If there is a Network Adapter driver that doesn't have a
corresponding connection in the connections folder then try reinstalling it.
