diagnostic on motherboard & cpu

hey all..

my computer wouldn't boot up recently.

was able to narrow it to the motherboard & cpu.

question now is this, whats the best way to determine which is bad, the
mobo ,or the cpu or both?????

the mobo is a gigabyte GA-6vxc7-4x and the cpu is the intel pentium3 1 ghz

Sadly if there's no BIOS error messages or beep codes, only swapping
out or buying an expensive PCI diagnostic card.
