DI-614+ router connection problems with multiple computers

Hi all, looking for some help in setting up a home network. The system is
set up as follows:

Cable modem connected to WAN port of a DI-614+ D-Link wireless router, via
an ethernet cable. Two computers connected to ports 1 and 2 of the router,
also via a ethernet cable. When 1 cable only is connected, internet is
functional on that computer. However, when 2 cables are connected, the
router goes haywire, and on both computers it connects/disconnects frequently
(every few seconds) and does this via displaying the 'a network cable is
unplugged' message on screen.

Any thoughts on how I might rectify this situation?

Some routers have an uplink port and an adjacent regular port, and you
can only connect a computer to one of them. Try connecting the
computers to a different pair of ports.
