DHCP Registers DNS

Does anyone know of any advantage to having DHCP register DNS for 2000
and XP clients? I know you can do it, but I haven't read anywhere why
it is preferable to the client doing it themselves.

It is redundant to do this with 2000/XP clients because they will do it
themselves. If you have NT4/9X clients, enablign this option will have DHCP
handle the DDNS registration because the clients don't support it
themselves.

There isn't any real benefit in most scenarios. The only time it may buy you anything is if you have XP or Windows 2000
machines that are not members of the domain but still want dynamic updates to the zone for the domain. If the zone were
configured to only allow secure updates, non-members would be unable to register their records. DHCP would be able to
register these records on their behalf.
