I'm trying to enable DHCP on a Windows XP client that was previously setup
with a static IP address. The system requires a reboot whenever the IP
address is changed or set to DHCP (like NT4), and upon rebooting does not
ever aquire the address. Other machines on the same subnet work fine and
there are still many addresses available. There are no filters either
software or hardware on the client or server. When issuing the ipconfig
/renew command, the systems display the message:
"This command cannot be completed: RPC server unavailable."
The RPC services are all running.
Any thoughts?
