DHCP Admin Tools from Win XP

Guest

Hi,

We are on a Win2K3 domain with all clients [except one] running Win XP SP2.
As a domain admin, I have the admin utilities installed on my PC. If I run
the DHCP applet, it always requires me to find our DHCP server.

So instead, through MMC I added the DHCP applet and gave it the name of our
DHCP server and saved it as a .MSC file.

Only problem with the latter is that it want to be saved every time I exit.

How come the DHCP applet in the admin tools doesn't "function" the same way
as the other tools? [obviously in terms of opening, closing, etc.]

Thanks

Gis

I don't know the answer to that but if it is problematic you might also try
using Remote Desktop to your DHCP server to work on it that way from your
admin workstation.

If i can do it without RD, I'd prefer it. As most of the administration stuff
can be done outside of RD, why use it just [as an example] for an
inconvenience with the DHCP applet.

Understood. Just trying to point out another option. You might also try
posting in the server general newsgroup.

Actually, i solved it quite easily in the end. There is the "IP Management"
applet. Contains DNS, DHCP and WINS. After you configure it, it remembers all
the settings.

Glad you figured out a solution that is acceptable to you and thanks for
reporting back what it was.
