DHCP address pool problems

Hello,
I have an issue on my windows 2000 server sp4 running DHCP. Over time,
according to the DHCP server statistics my address pool becomes depleted
where it runs out of addresses to assign to clients. When I go into the
address lease section I either see IP addresses with no computer names or
mac addresses that are not being assigned or I see missing entries for
addresses that could be assigned. For the first scenario, I simply delete
the bogus entries to free up addresses. For the second scenario, I tried to
use the reconcile function, and hit verify, and it listed the addresses that
were missing from the address lease section, but did it did not free them
up. I would rather not have to restart the server or services to fix this.
btw - my address lease time is set to 3 days.

Thanks,
Joe

Use a shorter lease, like an hour or a couple hours. Let it run like that
for a few days and see how it behaves.

Don't forget that "virtual adapters" (like with RRAS) also eat up addresses.

We do do a lot of remote VPN connections. Will try to shorten lease.
