DFS Move From one Disk to another

P

Patrick

Would appreciate any help that could be provided. I am
trying to migrate data from one SCSI enclosure to another
in order to gain more disk space and configure disks more
effeciently. There is a local DFS root that resides on
the "old" array as well as some of the links. I need
help in moving all this data (POINTERS & REPLICAS) from
one array to another...

Current setup
We are running an NT domain with 95% of our servers
running Win 2000. Our Main file server is a Windows
Powered NAS device that hosts a DFS root for all of our
users Home directories. There are (3) shared directories
that participate in the DFS tree, each on a separate
volume for quota reasons. In USRMGR we are mapping each
users home drive to: \\server\dfsRoot\%username%. Total
data is approximately 500GB.

Problem
We are going to be moving all of our data from one SCSI
array to another in order to use our disk space more
efficiently. We need to move (451) DFS pointers, and
their source data, from the "old" array to the "new"
array.

Steps done so far.
All source data for DFS pointers has been replicated
using Robocopy.
A new Root "pointer" folder has been created that is
identical to the original
Data between the two SCSI arrays is being replicated to
keep both folders in sync.

Next step
We need to find the best way to go about making the
transition from old to new. We need to make the move
happen fast since there is very little free space left on
the current disk set.
