DFS issues

All of a sudden this started cropping up in our network. Users started
getting errors with DFS shares. Here is what happens.

When user tries to open the DFS location they get the error
\\dfsroot.mydomain.com could not be found. When they try accessing the same
files using direct share \\server1\... it works!

For some users it even works when they type \\dfsroot but fails when they
try \\dfsroot.mydomain.com

For some users deleting the shortcut to DFS and recreating them solved the
problem. For others nothing worked!

All help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Bhargav Shukla

Is "dfsroot.domain.com" your domain DNS name? What is the exact UNC path
that you access here (for ex. \\domainname\rootname...)?

Please send me the output of 'dfsutil.exe /spcinfo' and 'dfsutil.exe
/pktinfo' on the client machine where this access is failing. (dfsutil.exe
is a support/reskit tool)

PS: Please post DFS related queries in newsgroup
microsoft.public.win2000.file_system. Please use "DFS" in subject to make it
immediately noticeable.

Unable to reproduce the problem at the moment. WIll send you outputs as soon
as I find a client where I can reproduce the problem. Sorry for delay but
it's a big campus and things get weird not going our way sometimes.

Thanks,
Bhargav

Sure. Do collect this data and send to us when see this happening again.
What you are trying to do is most common scenario so there should not be
issue here at all.

It has mainly fixed some issues related to export & import facility for DFS
namespaces.
